Katy Perry Gets Ready For Space Launch, Drapes Herself In A Shimmery Dress

Katy Perry really loves a costume. She’s not one to miss a theme party or an opportunity to dress as a bottle of hand sanitizer. So it should come as no surprise that she dressed for the SpaceX and NASA Launch yesterday, when she was scheduled to host a pre-event livestream on the Discovery Channel. SpaceX and NASA were scheduled to launch a rocket carrying two American astronauts, Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken, on a mission to the International Space Station. The takeoff was unfortunately postponed to this Saturday, due to weather, but the monumental event will be the first time that astronauts are launched into space from U.S. ground since 2011. Perry wore an on-theme silver caftan for the occasion, which surely would have delighted those who tuned into the livestream.
Sharing a new Instagram photo yesterday, Perry got into the spirit of the launch by putting a high-fashion twist on space-age style. The silvery metallic gown, styled by Samantha Burkhart, accentuated her baby bump, and she paired it with sparkly heels and earrings to match. (Perhaps the silver color palette is an ode to NASA’s original Mercury spacesuits, which were also designed in the shiny color.) “Welp. Today’s #SpaceLaunchLive was BUMPED due to weather, but what’s two days when @spacex has been waiting for 18 years,” Perry wrote in the caption.
While Perry was disappointed that yesterday’s event got postponed, she shared that she will be back for the grand launch this weekend—and who knows what glittery look she will bust out for it. Perry will be hosting a pre-game segment on Saturday on the Discovery and Science channels, so expect the ensemble to dazzle once again. Her infatuation with outer space is not totally surprising, given Perry has a whole song, “E.T.,” devoted to extraterrestrial life. But what is surprising is her super-glam approach to being such a space nerd.
